Welcome to Llancaiach Fawr
Llancaiach Fawr Manor stands proudly, as it has done since c1550, overlooking the Glamorgan uplands. It is set within a restored period garden which provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the passing of the seasons in this tranquil location. It is where the past and the present meet.
This superbly restored grade 1 listed gentry manor house is no ordinary heritage attraction. History here is tangible. The costumed servants of the house are living and working in 1645 and allow you to share and engage in their world. Fires crackle, candles flicker, Welsh wool clothing rustles and the sounds and smells of domestic life make your visit a memorable sensory experience of the past. It takes a moment to attune your ear to the unfamiliar speech within the Manor itself, but within seconds you become immersed in the time of the Civil Wars and the cares and concerns of ordinary people living in extraordinary times

Our visit to Llancaiach Fawr Manor was the highlight of our holiday. We loved all the characters who told us of their life as staff in the manor at the actual time and the authenticity of the backdrop to the rooms…and would like to record our special appreciation for the welcome and kindness of the lady on reception… she managed to get an extra table put up for us in the restaurant … and the meal was superb…we were so impressed with Wales that we are already planning our next visit. “Well worth sussing out – a historic fortified manor house” The staff here all speak as if they were in the 17th century and explain everything, answering questions well, and bringing this super house to life. They are in role at all times and have roles in the household (e.g scrivenor or dairymaid). It was absolutely credible and well done in all respects. You are back in the days of King Charles 1 and the Civil War; I learned things I never knew about and enjoyed the whole experience. This is somewhere really special as it appeals to all ages and all are involved from start to finish – OUTSTANDING. I travelled here by bus from Cardiff – a bit tricky but well worth the effort

“Believable and interesting for all” Took a group of teenagers to visit here. Despite their reluctance to enjoy the trip they found themselves caught up in the dramatisation of the life that used to be lived. They couldn’t believe that history could be so interesting!

“Family day out” Great value. Much care and investment has been made into making Llancaiach Fawr such a great day out. The staff were superb, and we would recommend you take the guided tour in order to fully appreciate its remarkable history. They made the manor house come to life.
Our children are aged 7 & 9 and the hosts ensured they were included into the historical talks. Plenty to see, do and take in. Try and visit the coffee shop too. Well worth it! Visited January 2015 – DH
“Afternoon Tea and Tour” When you walk into the hall at Llancaiach Fawr you feel that you are actually in another era the maintained originality of the property is so overwhelming. Llancaiach Fawr is a perfect example of an Elizabethan house and has been superbly preserved. It provides an insight into life in those times and is well presented by the knowledgeable and entertaining staff. Well done CCBC, your support of this wonderful property should be applauded. It is unique. A gem. The afternoon tea was on bonus.

“Really Interesting” Thought might just be another old house to visit, but the staff made it a real treat. Being guided round with great information and ability to ask any question, which was well answered, plus being entertaining was great. Guide book also informative and entertaining. Well done to all involved.
